Bosque County Chuckwagon Cookoff
On Saturday, March 15, Sweetpea and I attended the 2008 Bosque County Chuckwagon Cookoff. This annual event is held in conjunction (of sorts) with the National Championship Barbecue Cookoff held in October.
Chuckwagon teams from all over the state converge to practice the art of dutch oven cooking.
The competition menu consisted of chicken fried steak, potatoes, beans, bread, and peach cobbler, all prepared in cast iron pots placed on coals deep in the ground. Coals may be placed on top of the oven as well.
The campsites are also judged for cleanliness and authenticity.
The public is invited to purchase tickets to the wagon of their choice.
The judging was held earlier in the day.
Prizes are awarded in each food category. This year’s Grand Champion is the Break Away Wagon led by Wilber and Annette Wilson of Stamford. They just happened to be our wagon of choice. Cowboy entertainment followed.
Be sure and check it out sometime.
